This register explains what NeuScience currently claims about indexing, journal identifiers, discoverability and preservation. These are different functions. It accompanies journal information and quality standards and helps authors check publication requirements before submission.
Status reviewed 6 October 2026. NeuScience is preparing the inaugural collection for April 2027. No journal indexing, active preservation participation or verified article DOI deposit is claimed. No service is described as “applied” or “under evaluation” without confirmation of that application.
Current indexing and identifier register
What each type of service establishes
An ISSN identifies the journal title and medium. An article DOI provides a persistent identifier and metadata link. Neither is a quality award. A repository DOI for a dataset is not an article DOI or journal indexing record.
DOAJ is an open-access journal directory with selection criteria. Scopus and Web of Science are selective bibliographic/citation services. Their coverage needs a journal-specific record. Google Scholar, BASE, Semantic Scholar and Dimensions support discovery, but a crawlable site or a DOI deposit is not proof that a paper has been included. No automatic inclusion is promised.
PubMed is a biomedical citation resource; MEDLINE is an NLM-selected, indexed database; PMC is a full-text archive. Participation in one route must not be described as equivalent to all three. An eligible individual author-manuscript deposit also does not establish journal-wide participation. See PubMed, the NLM Catalog and the PMC Journal List.
Where to verify a later claim
Evaluation pathway for a new journal
First establish the editorial team and identity, publish reliable peer-reviewed work consistently, document ethical practice and make article metadata and content accessible. Applications are considered only when the relevant service’s requirements can be met. NeuScience has no confirmed submission or acceptance date for an index.
DOAJ’s current guide requires a newly launched journal to have more than one year of publishing history or at least ten open-access research articles before applying, alongside its other criteria. NeuScience has no published research record to demonstrate that threshold. Read the complete DOAJ criteria.
PMC’s pre-application rules include a registered ISSN and at least 25 primary peer-reviewed articles in final form. Publisher experience and scientific/editorial and technical evaluation also matter. That is a PMC pathway, not an automatic PubMed or MEDLINE application. Read the PMC application requirements.
Scopus and Web of Science make their own evaluations. Website improvements, a particular article count or an elapsed calendar period do not secure coverage. Consult Scopus selection information and the Web of Science Master Journal List for current official information. No 2028 or 2029 inclusion schedule is promised.
Long-term preservation and continuity
Independent preservation protects the research record if a journal site or publisher stops operating. Ordinary server backups support recovery but do not establish independent archival custody. NeuScience has not yet publicly verified active deposits with PKP Preservation Network, CLOCKSS, Portico or another named archive.
Before publishing articles, the journal needs to confirm the service, eligibility, deposit process, covered file types and recovery/access arrangements. Once established, this page should identify the archive and its verifiable participation record. A software plugin being installed or available is not proof that content has been deposited. Authors can use permitted repository deposits as an additional access route, subject to the licensing policy.
Identifiers and article metadata
The publication record should accurately associate an article with its authors and affiliations, abstract, publication dates, licence, funding, disclosures, references and relevant data/code links. ORCID identifiers should be attached to the correct individuals; a researcher identifier is not an endorsement of a journal.
DOI registration must be checked against the published landing page and metadata. Acceptance or assignment of a local manuscript ID does not show that registration has succeeded. Corrections and notices need clear links to the affected record. The journal has no published article deposits to cite as examples at present.
Metrics and author decisions
No Journal Impact Factor, CiteScore, quartile or measured acceptance/decision-time statistic is claimed for NeuScience. See journal metrics and responsible assessment. Index inclusion, citation performance and the reliability of an individual study must be evaluated separately.
If current indexing or archive deposit is a condition of your funder, institution, thesis or career assessment, check that requirement against the official record before submitting. A planned application does not guarantee eventual inclusion or retrospective coverage of earlier articles.
How status updates will be evidenced
A confirmed entry needs the service name, journal identifier, decision or effective date, coverage details and an official record or other verifiable participation evidence. An application may be described as submitted only when an acknowledgement is available; receipt does not imply successful evaluation. Declined, delayed or discontinued coverage should also be stated accurately.
